Bipolar disorder and holding a job?

I have been having severe mood swings since I was a teenager. I am now 35 and have gone to the dr. about a year ago concerning my mood swings. My family has a history of bi-polar. I was put on Lexapro and it made me feel like a zombie. Yet if I don’t take it, my moods swing really bad. It’s hard for me to hold a job. Is it possible for me to get SSI? I live in Pa.

If you are Bipolar, you should not just be taking Lexapro. You need to be on a mood stabilizer also. Lexapro is an anti-depressant and can cause Bipolar people to have wild mood swings (when not on a mood stabilizer.)

You need to see a pyschiatrist and get help. With proper medication, you probably won’t need to be on SSI.

To get SSI, you need to have a history of being in the hospital, etc. See a doctor and get the right meds.
